Conservatives Lost the NY 23rd

November 3, 2009

The New York Times reports on the outcome of the New York 23rd Congressional election:

Mr. Hoffman spoke to a deflated and sparse crowd of about 50 people in a hotel ballroom here shortly after midnight on Wednesday and said he had just called Mr. Owens to concede.

“Thank you to every single person out there that joined my team and fought back for America,” Mr. Hoffman said. “This one was worth the fight. And it’s only one fight in the battle, and we have to keep fighting.”

I’m crowing with glee. I’m doing the glee dance.

Seriously, did the right wing wackadoodles like Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh honestly think they could throw the race into Doug Hoffman’s corner?  Seriously? I kept watching and listening to Big Media predict a Hoffman win and wondered, “Are they all nuts?””

Conservatives, you may not like Scozzafava’s platform, but you can’t seriously think that you win an election with a platform that’s only about denying gays their civil rights, and saying no to every proposal made by the electoral majority in Washington, which is spearheaded by a candidate who doesn’t even live in the 23rd district!

The hard right social conservatives are not numerous enough to win elections. They’re a minority and they need to get used to it.

Hard right wingers, to you I say: if you want to live in a country governed by religious principles, move to Iran. Or Saudi Arabia. They really like religion there. What, you don’t like Muslims? You want a government based on the Judeo-Christian principles? Well you could try the West Bank settlements in Israel. You want an example of a country where the central government’s got their hands in everything? Move to North Korea.

Listen up, social conservative wackadoodles – Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
